Vlog at the second chute du Carbet
My video will give you a foretaste ☺️ of the sublime course of the second chute du Carbet. You'll also see the first few metres after passing the entrance.
Chutes du Carbet Guadeloupe
In the commune of Capesterre Belle-Eau
This unique protected area is in the heart of the Guadeloupe National Park in the commune of Capesterre Belle-Eau in Basse-Terre. As a reminder, Basse-Terre is the island on the left side of our beautiful butterfly.
You'll be able to see exactly where you are on the spot with this detailed map of the Guadeloupe or your GPS to locate the address. Read the article Which map should you choose to explore the Guadeloupe archipelago?

How do I get to the Chutes du Carbet?

Use your GPS 😄. It'll tell you how to get there from every commune.
Before arriving at the Chutes du Carbet parking lot, you must first cross the Habituée road, which turns in all directions : look straight ahead.
A magical cruise in a small group in the Grand-Cul-de-Sac-Marin lagoon 3 snorkeling stops - duration 8h
Advice : forget your phone if you're a passenger to avoid nausea 😩🤢.
When you can't see, remember to honk your horn. This may warn oncoming traffic. Some cars arrive quickly. ahah 😂.
Near the entrance, you'll see free parking. It's pretty well managed, with several parking options. One section is reserved for buses (especially in the morning).

Prices for admission to Chutes du Carbet
Everyone is asked to make a financial contribution to the Chutes du Carbet, and personally, I think that's great (it's done for the national parks of many destinations).
Prices for access to the Chutes du Carbet are available at Guadeloupe National Park official website. Be sure to bring some cash, as we've been known to run out of options with the credit card machine out of order.
⏰ : timetables vary completely in low and high season.
A proximité de l’entrée, vous avez des toilettes plutôt bien entretenues : pas de papier toilette, prévoyez des mouchoirs.

Guadeloupe Carbet Falls
How far down the carbet do you want to go?

Every hike to the Chutes du Carbet in Guadeloupe requires a different effort to access. It's well worth it to see some of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Lesser Antilles.
In this article, I present the first Chute du Carbet and the 2nd Chute du Carbet.. The third waterfall is still inaccessible following a prefectoral decree.

1st fall from the carbet
How long does it take to reach the first Chute du Carbet?
Visit first 115-metre Chute du Carbet can be reached in around 3 hours for the round trip, if not a little more depending on your physical stamina.
I'm a sportswoman, but for running. Hiking requires different efforts, so I can be slowed down.

What's more, as I'm not very comfortable with heights, I almost stopped several times to go back the other way. 🤪 But hey, my taste for a challenge got the better of me every time. 😄
1st fall from the carbet
The river

During the course of the 1st Fall, there's a river to crossr. If it rains, it becomes very complicated. Be sure to check the Guadeloupe weather forecast before you travel.
This stage is also an opportunity to take a break and listen to the relaxing sound of the water.

1st fall from the carbet
The arrival

The signposted paths to the first Chute du Carbet are quite long. wild, with muddy, slippery ground. Once again, don't underestimate the physical effort required for this walk, especially with children.
Arriving at the Chute, c'is spectacular 💦 .
I've seen higher waterfalls in Iceland like Glymur, or the more impressive Trou du Fer on Reunion Island. I love the first Chute du Carbet, il y a quelque chose de spécial ici. La descente est plus simple surtout sur la seconde partie du trajet mais reste tout aussi physique.
I'm really enjoying this getaway, despite the challenge it represents.
It's a physical stroll that reboosts you and does you good, especially as you pass fewer people on the way. After this day, you can imagine that you'll have a good night's sleep, and that the next day the aches and pains will be there 😄.
2nd fall of the carbet
The second Chute du Carbet: the easiest, for all abilities

The second Chute du Carbet, accessible to all. C’est la plus facile et la plus petite chute. Ma vidéo ⤵️ vous partage le parcours complet, relativement simple.
It can be reached in around 30 minutes, even for less athletic children and the elderly. The path of this green walk in Capesterre-Belle-Eau can still be slippery in the rain.
Enjoy the beautiful views of the rainforest.

The reward: the magnificent view of the 110-metre-high waterfall. Beautiful 🤩
This is a fairly short walk. It's simpler, with an opportunity to discover part of Guadeloupe's rainforest and its flora and fauna, just like the Mamelles Park.
My daughter-in-law, now 4 and a half, has no difficulty accessing it and loves this green walk.
Fauna and flora

I observe the environment more and more easily during my hiking in Guadeloupe. I'm becoming more familiar with the wonderful flora of our Guadeloupe archipelago.
Recommended for use in our Take me to Guadeloupe guide also facilitates this. You'll see she's great 😉.
C’est luxuriant, sublime et rafraîchissant : fougères, arbres de familles différentes, fleurs. Sans oublier nos chers animaux. J’ai déjà croisé rapidement un petit raton laveur que l’on appelle en Guadeloupe racoon.
There are also species from the mushroom and lichen family: polyporaceae.
Equipment and things to remember before your hike
Good shoes
Make sure you have good shoes to get to the first Chute du Carbet. There's plenty to choose from on this page.
Among the brands I appreciate the most, but which are also among the best known and recommended by travelers who hike during their trips: Lowa, Salomon, Columbia, Salewa, ...
I sometimes see people arriving in sandals or espadrilles. Really avoid that. You'll be taking unnecessary risks, especially on the 1st Chute du Carbet. Bring a good pair of closed shoes. I always wear sneakers, and not the ones I use for running, because they get muddy and it's a pain to clean them afterwards.
Watch the weather
Before planning the walk, take a close look at the weather forecast on your time slot. In Guadeloupe, rain can fall at any moment. An application will enable you to anticipate this in the recommendations of our Take me to Guadeloupe guide.
Be sure to pack a light raincoat for rain or these hiking ponchos. The complete list of things to pack in your suitcase and bag for outings in Guadeloupe can be found in our Take me to Guadeloupe guide.
Refreshments (especially for the first fall from the carbet)
Put in refreshments and light food in your bagsmall, nutritious meals, especially for long walks: almonds, this gourd with wateretc.
Don't leave any garbage. Put them in your bags to respect the site, as there are no garbage cans.
Leave before 2 p.m.
It gets dark early in Guadeloupe. Ideally, plan for a late-morning departure at the latest. if it's for the first chute du Carbet. For the second Chute, we sometimes go there around 2pm / 3pm, as the round trip is pretty quick.
Where to eat at Chutes du Carbet
There is no no restaurant near the entrance to Chutes du Carbet.
However, before you reach the site's parking lot, there are a few carbets where you can picnic, but there's no guarantee of finding a place as there are very few of them.
If you're hungry, I'd recommend packing a picnic. And of course, don't leave any garbage behind.
My overall opinion of Chutes du Carbet

As you can see, I love the Chutes du Carbet. My opinion is very positive: experience for parking, hiking trails to the Falls.
I find the staff in general always pleasant, the paths well-maintained and the signage correct. You're welcome.
