How to organize a trip to Guadeloupe for a week?
A lot can be seen in Guadeloupe in a week.
Before you arrive, you'll need to get well organized, taking into account my advice below with a local eye. I live in Guadeloupe and I can tell you that they will come in handy to save you time and enjoy great experiences, even if you like to leave room for the unexpected. and you're quite right!.

The weather in Guadeloupe
First, take a look at the weather in Guadeloupeto estimate which days are sunnier and which are rainier.
It's essential to take this into account, as a visit to La Soufrière or a green walk with obstacles such as the Saut d'Acomat in Pointe-Noire is not recommended in the rain. It's too dangerous.

Visit at least two islands

Depending on your preferences and desires, opt to visit at least 2 islands.
For a first 7-day trip to Guadeloupe, in my opinion, you should of course opt for the larger Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre for their seaside, agricultural and green aspects.
However, if you want to favor more than 2 islands in a week, especially for a first trip, it's possible, but I'm afraid it would be tiring. Don't hesitate to read my article recommending the best day trips in Les Saintes.
I love highlighting all the islands of our archipelago, and I encourage you to visit them all, but for a first week's stay, to do slow tourism, without skimming over the essentials, this seems like a lot. It's up to you to decide!

If you're coming back to Guadeloupe for a week, don't hesitate to consider an island other than Basse-Terre or Grande-Terre: for example, Les Saintes in Terre-de-Haut and Terre-de-Bas or Marie-Galante, not forgetting Désirade.
A one-week itinerary in Guadeloupe

What to do in Guadeloupe in a week?
I'm not going to reveal the addresses of our beloved Take me to Guadeloupe guide 😉 which we share with a fine selection taking into account our preferences as a local.
Inside, you'll find more than 20 personal tours which you can place on full days of your Guadeloupe vacation week, or even for a 10-day or 15-day stay in Guadeloupe.

But here are five of my must-sees with my local eye that you absolutely must put on your schedule for a week's stay in Guadeloupe.
Pointe des Châteaux

How can you imagine a trip to Guadeloupe without visiting Pointe des Châteaux in Grande-Terre? It's a place I've come to appreciate because it's only a few kilometers from my grandparents' home at the Saint-François marina. I've been going there since I was a child.
It's a place with incredible energy, breathtaking views and rich biodiversity. I've also been there several times while running in preparation for the Los Angeles marathon.
Be sure to respect the area, whether for your garbage or the cross at the top.
Carbet Falls

Visit Carbet Falls, a favorite spot for a green family outing. It's a real immersion in the rainforest, accessible to all in just a few minutes, especially for the walk to the second Chute du Carbet.
But don't forget to bring the right shoes to go down and then up the steps on the way back. In just a few minutes, you'll have a great overview of our flora on this side of Guadeloupe.
The former slave prison Petit-Canal

This symbolic site is well worth a visit, even on your first trip to Guadeloupe. Beyond the photogenic cursed fig tree, it's the history of this former prison and the steps that should catch your attention. The church is also beautiful, with a fine view over the fishing port of Petit-Canal.
The beach in the village of Sainte-Anne

To be honest, I often shun Sainte-Anne's tourist areas, such as the Caravelle beach, which I find almost unbearable in high tourist season. However, the beach in the village of Sainte-Anne remains mythical, and reminds me of moments from my childhood. Don't hesitate to take a walk there, and also to visit the village to see the church, some traditional houses and murals.
Pointe-à-Pitre

You either love Pointe-à-Pitre or you hate it. Personally, I love it. I see its potential, despite all the talk about waste, for example. This commune has a wonderful history, an unrivalled artistic touch in its streets and period houses to behold.
Slowly but surely, this commune is reinventing itself with a host of new concepts.
How much does a trip to Guadeloupe cost for a week?

It's always difficult to answer this question, because the price varies according to the season of the year, but also according to the standard of your accommodation, your car rental, the cost of your plane ticket (depending on airline availability), your eating habits and the type of activities you choose.
Finally, the price of a trip to Guadeloupe also varies according to the number of people: solo, couple, family, etc. A rental can be much cheaper if you decide to travel with several friends.
Prices are still very reasonable compared with a destination like New York.
However, you will find below the categories of expenses to plan for:
