Our weekly ritual? Take the car, cross a few cane fields, the town of Port-Louis with its pretty church, its recent and sublime murals in the northern Grande-Terre to arrive at the famous Souffleur beach in Port-Louis.

Port Louis is a commune that I visit regularly. almost every week - as I live in northern Grande-Terre.

Souffleur beach in Guadeloupe, one of our most beautiful beaches
A beach for everyone, including children
Plage du Souffleur is a large beach in Guadeloupe. It can accommodate many people at the same time, which is a plus but also a drawback.
It is appreciated by Guadeloupeans and tourists alike for its beautiful panoramas, its translucent and rather calm water, its sunsets being among my favourites in my Take me to Guadeloupe guide sans oublier son sable blanc et fin.
It's a lively family beach, where locals gather for a chat on the sand, in the water or at one of the tables under the coconut palms. Others get together for a game of pétanque or soccer.
The atmosphere is really friendly.

Many of the pitches at Plage du Souffleur are in the shade. A plus for staying all day, unlike other beaches.
Activities at Plage du Souffleur
Chill out by the water
Lounging by the water is one of the most classic activities at Plage du Souffleur. Take a dip in the sea, then lie back on your towel. Personally, I don't like to do this except to read a book, perhaps, with the benefits of the sea air. I never stay on the sand for very long.
I take a sea bath and leave.

Towed buoy

Snorkeling excursion

Why make this snorkeling trip departing from Port-Louis? If you'd like to explore some of the underwater world on the Grande-Terre side, this outing is sure to please in the shallow waters of the Grand Cul-de-sac bay. I also like the idea that it's limited to a maximum of 8 people with a marine biology expert.
From age 8, and you must be able to swim.

Children's playground
A quelques mètres de la plage se trouve cette aire de jeux pour les tout-petits. Elle est bien entretenue. Seul bémol : son exposition au soleil.

Si vous aimez le basket, à côté de l’aire de jeux pour enfants, vous avez également un terrain simple mais propre.
Visit the town of Port-Louis
A quelques mètres de la plage du Souffleur, le bourg de Port-Louis qui vaut le détour pour son église, ses peintures murales colorées mais aussi sa mairie, sans oublier certaines maisons traditionnelles qui lui apportent une touche très authentique.
Among the most beautiful sunsets in Guadeloupe
I've seen a lot of sunsets on our islands in Guadeloupe, and I can confirm that Port-Louis has nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to some of the most beautiful.
A show I can't get enough of.
Sargassum at Souffleur beach
For the time being, this is an area in Guadeloupe that is free of sargassum. I've never seen any in Port-Louis. As the sargassum comes from the mouth of the Amazon off the coast of Brazil, this part of the coast is not affected.
Eating at Anse du Souffleur
Many options are available for dining at Anse du Souffleur if you decide to spend the day or part of it there.
Restaurants at Plage du Souffleur
Among the restaurant choices, several options at Souffleur beach with tables and chairs.
You'll find both local cuisine and classic offerings. I can't comment on the quality of the dishes at the moment, as I live twenty minutes away by car and never eat in the area.
Further on, near the beach, other restaurants.
Food trucks
Several food trucks occupy the area, especially on the roadside: fried chicken, chichis, bokits, cod accras, crêpes and lots more.

Picnics
You can eat your own meal on the beach (leaving no garbage) or at one of the many carbets.
Many locals bring their own prepared dishes to eat with the family, especially on Sundays and public holidays. Barbecues are available free of charge.
How to avoid the crowds at Souffleur beach?
If you're planning to come to Souffleur beach, from 11am onwards is not the most pleasant time, especially at weekends.
Stay away from busy areas
To avoid the crowds at peak times, move away from the area next to the soccer pitch.
Je vous invite à marcher un tout petit plus loin ou à dépasser le cimetière. Vous tomberez sur de beaux spots avec de l’eau cristalline et des carbets.
⚠️ Traffic jams : On Saturday and Sunday, around 5pm, on the way home, there are often long traffic jams at the traffic circle of the Morne-à-l'Eau cemetery and even afterwards.
Come a little earlier before 11 a.m.
I recommend you come early in the morning around 9am to avoid the crowds before 11am. It's so much nicer in the early morning 😊 It'll be a bit after the locals arrive to do physical exercises early: aquagym, yoga, etc...
The sting of yen-yen
Ah ... the famous yen yen bites in Port-Louis, not to be confused with mosquitoes. These insects, also known as sand flies in the U.S., make sharp bites everywhere, even on your head despite your hair. Many people will tell you to avoid this beach at the end of the day when the sun goes down for the yen-yen bites.
I can confirm that these tiny midges bite without mercy and swarm over us :/.
This is also the case at the start of the day, so don't forget your protection.

Plusieurs bus desservent Port-Louis, comme c’est le cas de la ligne L112 depuis Pointe-à-Pitre, mais il faudra tout de même prévoir une courte marche pour rejoindre la plage (environ 5/10 minutes). Le plus simple étant d’avoir votre propre voiture. Je vous parle dans this article de 2 bons plans pour avoir des prix intéressants.
Je vous conseille de comparer les offres d’hébergements sur ce site. Je pense que l’on y trouve un bon comparatif et les informations nécessaires pour trouver un lieu où dormir proche de la Plage du Souffleur à Port-Louis.
