I've been living between Guadeloupe and Paris for almost two years now. I am grateful for this new life in Guadeloupe which couldn't have come at a better time with the global pandemic. Since my arrival, I've learned a lot about the flora and fauna of our archipelago. Nature is omnipresent. Moringa in Guadeloupe is my favorite discovery. A superfood that we have in our garden.
I asked you on my Instagram account @weloveguadeloupeblog if you know moringa. What do you think? Many of you said no! Yet this plant is sold in all shapes and sizes in our favorite stores (organic stores, parapharmacies...), online on Amazon) in France, the United States and other countries ?
Living in a rural area of northern Grande-Terre, we're extremely lucky to have this superfood in our garden.

In this article, I'm going to tell you more about moringa, because you'll probably come across it on your next trip. trip to Guadeloupe:

What is moringa in Guadeloupe?

How to use moringa at home
I've been using moringa for over six months now, and I can assure you that I'm already seeing the first results: the fight against cellulite and water retention, an appetite suppressant effect, and a fiber intake that has greatly improved my intestinal transit.

If you don't have any in your garden, moringa can be eaten as a superfood in several forms or in your own preparations. Several small retailers sell their preparations on the Amazon Marketplace on this page.

From experience, I recommend using moringa in this way:
⇒ Moringa leaf powder in my dishes and beauty care products (hair, face)
⇒ Raw leaves in my dishes
⇒ By boiling the leaves in water for an infusion to combat water retention and cellulite, improve intestinal transit and make up for deficiencies.
In the near future, I'm going to try the seeds and oil to refine my figure and improve the elasticity of my skin.
Note that there are restrictions on the use of moringa, for example for pregnant women, or that you need to take short breaks from consumption from time to time. I'll elaborate on this point when I've had enough time to look into it, but I just wanted to point it out.
My recipe for moringa powder
I go to my garden to select branches of dark green leaves that have reached maturity. I've read that this color reflects the good quality of the leaves picked.
After removing the leaves, I wash everything quickly (so as not to lose the nutrients) and gently dry them on a towel to remove the water. Don't hesitate to shake gently if necessary.

I then made small bunches of moringa to dry in the cellar, where there's less light. The photos in the article were taken on the pergola, but that's not where I carry out the drying phase, to avoid direct exposure to the sun or the intense wind that could tear off all my leaves.

Today, I can tell you that the leaves are quite dry. I'm now ready to start making the powder.
I'll publish the results shortly.

Wow thank you for this article! Since I don't eat meat I'll try to find some when I get there! I'm clenching my buttocks, I'd love to have some in the garden 🤞
Thanks Viviane!
U're welcome. You'll see it's well worth the investment 🙂
Great article
I use moringa mainly as an herbal tea. I also use it in my smoothies. And the oil in hair care
Thank you so much Edlyna! Very good idea to slip it into smoothies, I don't think about it enough 😉
A plant with a thousand virtues. I'm originally from Senegal, and more precisely from Casamance. My parents' villages grow a lot of it. Moringa is used in the same way as you write, but also with a clay mixture to treat skin irritations.
Thank you for this lovely article that really makes you want to come to Guadeloupe for sure! 🙂
Thank you Mariame for this anecdote. I just bought myself a nice mortar to elaborate a better powder, I will share this in the article by updating it soon 🙂
