I live in Guadeloupe. I've had the opportunity to visit Terre-de-Bas several times, so here are a few practical tips. To find out more, check out my favorite walks and recommendations in my Take me to Guadeloupe guide.
By the way, have you noticed that media photos of the Saintes often only show Terre-de-Haut?
With my local eye, this information will be useful for passer 1 ou 2 jour(s) extraordinaire(s) à Terre-de-Bas aux Saintes whether you're an international or domestic visitor. Go for it 😉.

This boat trip A full day of sailing and diving will allow you to discover our volcanic islands in a whole new way.
Terre-de-Bas
Terre-de-Bas in Guadeloupe on a map
South of Basse-Terre, Terre-de-Bas is one of Guadeloupe's 5 inhabited islands. It is entirely volcanic. In Les Saintes, it's the most massive. However, it has fewer inhabitants than Terre-de-Haut. You'll feel it as soon as you arrive 😄.
Over the last decade, the island has become more sought-after, but fortunately for the time being the tourist influx is moderate. No on-site resorts.
In addition to tourism, the traditional activity is fishing.
Where to stay in Terre-de-Bas?

Having stayed here several times, and always with the same level of satisfaction, I strongly recommend this sublime tourist residence.

Visit all my favorite recommendations in my Take me to Guadeloupe guide.
Terre-de-Bas
1. Take advantage of the island's relaxing atmosphere

Down-to-earth, yes we can say it: it's our haven of peace in Guadeloupe. There are plenty of them in the archipelago, but the air is really special here.
Next door, Terre-de-Haut, reputed to have one of the most beautiful bays in the world, is a little less tranquil for relaxation. It's a victim of its own success, especially during the high tourist season.
Take the time to settle into a spot where you can simply relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. For sunrises, you'll see, it's a real little paradise. 😍

If you're looking for a simple, relaxing vacation, and want to say goodbye to daily stress, then Terre-de-Bas in the French West Indies is the place for you. the place to be. Ahah. It's even quieter than La Désirade, which I describe in this article.
You can also alternate between Terre-de-Haut and Terre-de-Bas for Les Saintes (the two islands are only a few kilometers apart).

Terre-de-Bas
2. Taking the time to talk to the people of Saint-Gobain
The island boasts just over 1,000 inhabitants. It's always a great place to meet the people of Terre-de-Bas. They're natural conversationalists.
You know it: talking to locals makes a trip more immersive 😉.

For example, I met Pierre, nicknamed Petit Pierre (see video below ⬇️). He was on our way, in front of a mural, not far from the port. At 85, I found him in great shape, smiling.
Pierre was born on the island in the 40s. He came from a family of 13 children and would have liked to spend more time at school. At the time, conditions did not allow him to do so. 10 years earlier, he fell from a ladder, breaking his ribs and collarbone, but his resilience enabled him to cope with the ordeal.
He has worked all his life for the commune, his island. You'll notice that the population is relatively old.

3. Hikes to explore nature

In Terre-de-Bas, you'll discover Guadeloupe's wild beaches, secluded coves and naturally preserved paths.
The vegetation is magnificent 😍. I know a lot of you come to our Caribbean islands to land on a beach. It's true, we have some of the best beaches in the world. However, in addition to the seaside pleasures, there are also other cool things to do in Guadeloupe. Like hiking. Don't forget it 😉
As the climate is more humid than in Terre-de-Haut, the green colors of the forest do not go unnoticed in Terre-de-Bas.
For hikers, for example, there are several interesting trails. Also in my Take me to Guadeloupe guide for my favorites.

They allow you to discover the green spaces of our Bois d'Inde forests, a well-preserved tree in Les Saintes.
Indian wood is part of the island's biodiversity. It is reused in many ways: spices for our local cuisine, therapeutic properties, essential oils, etc.

The fauna is equally rich.

Terre-de-Bas
4. Admire the views

For manyumerous observation pointsYou'll be able to see Ilet à Cabrit, Les Augustins, La Coche and more. You'll come back with beautiful images and photos. You won't be disappointed.

5. Wall paintings

Just a few meters from the finish port, sublime murals by the Créativ'Art association.
Take me to Guadeloupe guide.
Getting around the island

There aren't 1,000 options for car rental in Terre-de-Bas. I recommend the car rental company Iguana Location. We offer quality vehicles, as well as other alternatives such as electric bikes and scooters.
